About the CAPPA Childbirth Educator Training (CCCE)

Begin your journey as a Certified Childbirth Educator (CCCE) with CAPPA’s 18-hour, evidence-based training. 

This interactive workshop prepares you to teach comprehensive childbirth education classes that empower expectant families with the knowledge and confidence they need for pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum.

Certification Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Become a CAPPA Member and enroll in the Childbirth Educator course
  • Attend a CAPPA Childbirth Educator training
  • Complete all course requirements within 1 year of training

Recertification ($125) is required every 3 years to maintain your certification. Reinstatement ($300) is necessary if your certification has lapsed for less than 12 months.

About Childbirth Educators

 

The CCCE training program is designed to train and certify professionals to educate and support families preparing for pregnancy and during pregnancy, providing comprehensive, non-biased, evidence-based information, encouragement, and referrals as needed.

Certified Childbirth Educators can be found working as public health educators, hospital and community educators, in care providers’ offices, and in private practice throughout the world.

CAPPA Childbirth Educators:

  • Offer non-biased perinatal information, support, encouragement, guidance, and education to families.
  • Provide information on birth options and resources.
  • Encourage informed decision-making
    Model and teach effective communication.
  • Help families understand their rights according to current healthcare policy and legal statutes.
  • Work closely with students and their families to explore and clarify their values and needs surrounding birth.
  • Equip students with non-medical comfort techniques for labor such as movement, position changes, comforting touch, visualization, breathing techniques, affirmations, and more.
  • Provide informational and practical support to partners and family members
    Provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate education.
  • Direct students to healthcare professionals when support requires clinical assessment, a need for prescription, or medical diagnosis.
  • Seek to foster a cooperative, respectful, and positive relationship with the healthcare team.

The CAPPA Childbirth Educator is not a clinician and therefore does not:

  • Diagnose medical conditions
  • Interpret medical diagnoses or clinical results
  • Prescribe or give dosages of herbal or over-the-counter medications
  • Administer treatment of medical conditions
  • Perform clinical procedures
