At the 2003 CAPPA conference in Denver, we asked attendees why they loved CAPPA. Here are their responses.
Desirre Andrews
"Why do I love CAPPA? CAPPA has given me the tools and opportunities to put my actions where my passions are. The critical thinking skills and excellent education I received through my trainings and continuing education have helped me grow as a wife, mother, friend, and citizen (I am now the VP of ICAN) well beyond the scope of my thriving practice. I have gone through three CAPPA certifications (CCCE, CLE, CLD) and am also the CBE trainer for Colorado."

"CAPPA has really done a good job preparing me for the jobs of a doula. I feel informed, educated, and well-equipped for the work at hand. Being a doula is so rewarding, but having the training to do the job with confidence has really enabled me to become a stronger person and a better doula. I attended my first birth a few months back and I can hardly tell you what a great thing it was to know what was going on and how to handle it. I've had another doula training, but it did not cover as much ground or as much detail as CAPPA does."
Debi Ellis
"I became a member of CAPPA because of the wonderful training opportunities and the support and friendliness of the organization. Having been a member of various birth-related groups in the years, not one comes close to the sisterhood of CAPPA. I felt an immediate welcome."
Jennifer Pinholster
"I attended one of the first trainings in Atlanta in January 2000. I loved the style in which Tracy and Donna taught. I have been to nearly every conference since, missing only the second one. One of my favorite things about the conference is that, though we are presented with a lot of very useful information, we are also presented a beautiful birth or One Voice DVD that relights your passion and renews your energy to push more when you leave. I love CAPPA. I love the people involved in CAPPA. I feel like I have friends and family in the group. CAPPA has grown so much since it first began but has kept its ability to still feel like family. I can't say enough about the instructors, the conference, and the true passion for making birth better. I am very proud to be a member. I love the girls of CAPPA and I couldn't be more grateful for everything they have taught me."
Michelle Schnaars
"I am honored to be a part of a caring organization. CAPPA has helped me realize my dreams and potential. If someone told me ten years ago what I would be doing today, I would have been really surprised. I'm supporting families in their endeavor to have a healthy and happy pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum experience. CAPPA is empowering, not only for women and families, but for their members."
Karen Ferguson
"I love CAPPA because of its voice and stance on childbirth. I value being connected to other CAPPA women who want to empower women during a pivotal time of their lives. Thanks, CAPPA, for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to educating your members and communities about issues related to childbirth. I appreciate your website and the exposure I have received from being listed. It's been a great reference for me as well. You're the best!"
Deirdre deProspero
"I remember receiving a call from Tracy Wilson Peters during the Hayman fire here in Colorado, asking if we were all right and if there was anything she or CAPPA could do. That was so very amazing and personal to me at such a frightening time. CAPPA has become a huge association, yet still retains the doula quality of caring for everyone involved. Thank you for all you do."
