Recertification
In order to remain certified by CAPPA, you must keep a continuous membership and renew your certification every three years from the original date you were certified. In order for candidates to be eligible for CAPPA re-certification they must sign and agree to the following forms- Code of Conduct and Social Media Policy, Grievance Policy, Mission Statement, CAPPA Approach / Philosophy Statement, Vision Statement, and Scope of Practice. The recertification fee for every program is $75.00, and the requirements for each program are listed below. Please be advised that CAPPA policies and prices may be changed or adjusted at any time.
Please allow approximately four weeks for CAPPA to process your recertification materials once we receive them. CAPPA receives a high volume of recertification requests, and each request is given individual attention. Upon successful completion of any of the CAPPA recertification requirements, you will receive a CAPPA certificate of recertification.
A 'Rush Fee' of $ 50.00 may be submitted along with your packet if you require a quicker turnaround; with a rush fee you can expect no more than one week for your recertification packet to be reviewed.
Note: All time frames above refer to open business days.
Labor Doula
- Maintain continuous membership in CAPPA. A lapse in your CAPPA membership will result in a $50.00 reinstatement fee and all overdue membership dues must be paid. CAPPA certified professionals who let their membership lapse more than 120 days must pay a $100.00 reinstatement fee plus all past due membership dues. Additionally, membership must be valid within 120 days at the time of recertification.
- Document 15 hours of continuing education in pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, or postpartum issues approved by CAPPA.
- Submit good evaluations from three mothers for whom you have provided labor support.
- Submit two letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified labor doula, certified nurse-midwife, obstetrician/gynecologist, or IBCLC.
- Submit $75 recertification fee.

Postpartum Doula
- Maintain continuous membership in CAPPA. A lapse in your CAPPA membership will result in a $50.00 reinstatement fee and all overdue membership dues must be paid. CAPPA certified professionals who let their membership lapse more than 120 days must pay a $100.00 reinstatement fee plus all past due membership dues. Additionally, membership must be valid within 120 days at the time of recertification.
- Documentation of 15 hours of continuing education in perinatal issues approved by CAPPA.
- Submit good evaluation forms from three (3) postpartum clients.
- Proof of infant and child CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the Red Cross.
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from any of the following: Certified Childbirth Educator,Certified Labor Doula, Certified Antepartum Doula, Certified Postpartum Doula, Midwife, Obstetrician, IBCLC, Pediatrician, or Certified Lactation Educator.
- Submit $75 recertification fee.

Antepartum Doula

- Documentation of 15 hours of continuing education in antepartum topics. (Contact CAPPA for approval.)
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified labor doula, certified nurse midwife, OB/GYN, IBCLC
- Submit $75 recertification fee.

Childbirth Educator

Lactation Educator

- Document 15 hours of continuing education in lactation issues.
- Submit a two page report on how you have grown as a CLE over the past three years.
- Submit a two page review on each of three studies in lactation research published within one year of current date. (Form K.)
- Submit good evaluation forms from 10 students. Evaluations should be from at least five different classes.
- Submit two letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified antepartum doula, certified postpartum doula, certified nurse-midwife, obstetrician/gynecologist, IBCLC, licensed, registered, or certified professional midwife, or registered/licensed practical nurse.
- Submit $75 recertification fee.

Teen Educator

- Document 15 hours of continuing education in teen issues approved by CAPPA.
- Submit good evaluations from three teen childbirth education class members.
- Submit two letters of recommendation from a Certified Labor Doula, Certified Childbirth Educator, Midwife, OB, Pediatrician, Lactation Consultant, Lactation Educator, Certified Antepartum Doula, or Certified Postpartum Doula.
- Submit $75 recertification fee.

Pregnancy Fitness Educator
Recertification for all CAPPA certifications must be done every three years, beginning with the original date of certification.
- Maintain continuous membership in CAPPA. A lapse in your CAPPA membership will result in a $50.00 reinstatement fee and all overdue membership dues must be paid. CAPPA certified professionals who let their membership lapse more than 120 days must pay a $100.00 reinstatement fee plus all past due membership dues. Additionally, membership must be valid within 120 days at the time of recertification.
- Document 15 hours of continuing education in pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, pregnancy fitness, or postpartum issues approved by CAPPA.
- Submit proof of teaching 20 hours of pregnancy fitness classes with at least five pregnant women. Submit good evaluations from these students.
- Submit proof of completing assigned CEUs. Contact the Director of Pregnancy Fitness Educators at sonali@cappaindia.com for assignment of CEU work.
- Submit two letters of recommendation from any of the following: certified childbirth educator, certified labor doula, certified nurse-midwife, obstetrician/gynecologist, or IBCLC.
- Submit $75 recertification fee.

- CAPPA DVDs available in the CAPPA Store: CEU Opportunities may be purchased and viewed for contact hour credit send in an essay and $5.00 to receive 1 contact hour per DVD, Note: some DVDs may be worth additional contact hours and will be noted individually in the description)
- Book reports (min. 1,500 words) from required reading list (max.5 contact hours)
- Breastfeeding consultations as an observer with an IBCLC (max. 3 contact hours)
