Childbirth Educator Training

Childbirth Education trainings will focus on:
Training and Competence
A person may not have a specific educational or professional background to teach childbirth education classes, however, special training and preparation facilitates competence as a childbirth educator and is considered mandatory for the profession. This training should enable the educator to demonstrate competency and professionalism in the following:
Basic group leadership, adult learning and communication skills
Upon completion of the certification process the educator should demonstrate competencies in:
- Presentation of material to an adult class
- Enthusiasm for teaching and respect for others options
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a healthcare setting
- Demonstrate the ability to exercise judgment when sharing ideas, personal beliefs and research with parents
- Keep current on the latest medical trends for childbirth and pregnancy
- Recognize that a family has the freedom to make educated and informed choices as to their labor and birth. The ability to teach a well-rounded class offers this freedom.

Take the first step to becoming a CLE by attending a workshop in your area, taught by veteran pre/postnatal educator Laurel Wilson. Laurel has been working with families in the childbearing year for over thirteen years as a doula, educator and prenatal yoga teacher. She serves as the CAPPA Director of Lactation Programs. She trains Labor Doulas, Childbirth Educators, and Lactation Educators for CAPPA.

Postpartum Doula

Description:
This 2-day workshop is the first step in becoming a CAPPA Certified Postpartum Doula. A postpartum doula assists the new mother, baby, and the rest of her family within the first few weeks after the birth of the baby. You will learn the skills needed to be a successful postpartum doula including: breastfeeding support, newborn baby care, signs/symptoms of postpartum mood disorders, bonding, calming and soothing techniques, working with various types of families, creating and marketing your business and much, much more!

Teen Educator

Description:
Be one of the first to attend the new and improved Teen Educator advanced training with the new Executive Director of Teen Programs, Chelsea Eardley.
This post-conference training will take place July 26-27, 2010. Both days are from 9-5 with an hour lunch break.
Cost is $250 plus the cost of CAPPA membership and certification packet.
Class is interactive - please dress comfortably and to move around.
